Independence Day in Vietnam is celebrated on September 2nd each year and celebrates Vietnam's independence from France.

This is a patriotic day with people attending parades, firework shows and other festivities. The Vietnam flag is displayed on buildings, streets and all throughout the country.
History
Back in 1887 Vietnam became part of French Indochina and later during World War 2 the country was occupied by the Japanese. After the war on September 2, 1945 Ho Chi Minh proclaimed the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, which was North Vietnam at the time. Later in 1976 North and South Vietnam joined together again but the declaration by Ho Chi Minh back in 1945 remained National Day.
