All Saints Day Celebrates all the saints ever known. It always occurs on the first Monday in November and is also known as All Hallows Day.
Celebration\ Observance
Many Catholics place candles on the graves of the dead before this day then go to attend mass the next morning. It is also becoming popular to just honor the saints and loved ones who have passed on that year or day instead of everyone.
History
This day first occurred on 13 May 609 C.E. when Pope Boniface IV decided to dedicate the day to the Virgin Mary and all the martyrs. Pope Gregory III moved the date to November 1rst and expanded it to honor all saints. The holiday survived the Protestant reformation and still continues today.
